Will the Plane Go Down?
A Psalm of Suffering
Dear God, I know you see how hard we’re trying.
I want to trust you with our life, and I do, but sometimes I wonder what that will look like.
You know the responsibilities we have, so please guide us.
I know you work everything out for our good, but I often wonder what that will look like on earth, practically speaking.
I know we experience suffering for our ultimate salvation.
Loss for our internal growth.
And that every struggle is a gift from You to guide us, teach us, and point us toward where you want us to go.
I know we were never promised earthly blessings in this life, but as a mom, is it bad to admit that I want that? That I don’t want her to experience the struggle I had to experience?
God, you know we’re willing to be faithful, and die to ourselves and our visions and our plans for our life.
Because we trust You.
And we know that You want what’s best for us.
But will the plane crash before we make it out in time?
Are we meant to experience the crash to grow something in us?
Or at the last second will you show up like you did for Abraham, with the whole point being just to have strengthened our faith in making us think we were crashing?
God, but if it is your will, please have mercy on us. Please help us to get whatever the lesson is quick so we don’t have to repeat the cycle again and again.
But even if the plan goes down, I guess we’ll get up again and again and try again tomorrow.
Just like you saw Hagar in the wilderness when no one else could see her, God, I know You can see us.
I know you can see us.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us and save us.
Lord, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
I know you are not the one to tempt us or to bring us harm but it is the evil one who wants to steal, kill, and destroy.
And just like the story of Job, the enemy could only do what You allowed him to.
So God please have mercy on us.
Help us to fight these battles that only you know we’re fighting.
Only you can make a way where there was no way before.
And thank you for your peace, even amidst tribulation.
Because of that, I know everything will be okay.
