Crucifying Inherited Desires

What my parents don’t realize is I have the same desires they do,

Handed down through blood and memory,

Threaded into the fabric of my soul.

How easy it would be to surrender the fight,

To indulge the fleeting fires of the flesh,

To fade away in a moment’s escape.

But I’ve seen the price,

The angels and demons vying for our souls,

The ruin that grows from every compromise.

There’s too much at stake,

The people we love, a life in His presence,

The crowns promised to those who endure.

Each breath demands a choice,

Whose voice we’ll obey,

What futures we’ll dare to create.

We can choose our hard:

The hard of broken families and failed destinies,

Or the hard of showing up in love and obedience.

But the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,

It clears through the fog of deception,

And arms us to stand strong amidst temptation.

God promises the fullness of life for those who love Him,

That His yoke is easy and burden is light,

And that His Holy Spirit will guide us and make our paths straight.

The same desires that once slaved my family,

By Christ’s power are becoming crucified in me,

I won’t give the devil my life, my children, or my destiny.
